The 29-year-old skiing phenom was training at a resort in Park City, Utah, on The Superpipe (a daunting canyon with 22-foot high walls that's carved into the side of a ski slope) when she fell and ruptured an artery in her neck. She is also being remembered for her fight to make halfpipe skiing an Olympic sport. Thanks in part to her efforts, it will debut during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Ex footerballer attempts to take his life.

In an astonishingly frank and courageous interview, former Premier League hero Dean Windass has revealed how last week he tried to commit suicide twice.
Former Premier League footballer Dean Windass has told how he tried to commit suicide twice last week after slipping into the grips of depression

Little more than a month after the suicide of fellow footballer Gary Speed shocked the football world, ex Hull and Bradford striker Windass told how battles with drink and depression led him to try to take his own life.

The father-of-two has struggled to adjust to life since quitting football two years ago and says he has cried every day.

And just a few days ago, following the sudden death of his father, Dean attempted to take an overdose.

Luckily a former girlfriend turned up at his door in the nick of time and, realising what he had done, forced him to drink pints of water until he was sick.

But the following day after slipping back into the grips of depression and drinking half a bottle of strong amaretto liqueur, he tried to commit suicide again.

For a second time he was saved by a miraculous stroke of luck - when a friend of his knocked on the door.

At the height of his fame Windass was earning more than half a million pounds a year.

In 2008 he scored the goal that would take his home town club Hull into the top flight of English football for the first time in their 104-year history.

He also appeared in the Premier League for Bradford City and Middlesbrough and played in the Scottish Premier League with Aberdeen before ending his professional career, which spanned 19 seasons, in 2010.

Loved by the fans for his passion on the pitch, with a beautiful wife and loving family  it seemed he had it all.

But after squandering most of his fortune on clothes and top-of-the-range cars Windass has been left almost bankrupt, unable even to pay for his son's car insurance.

After retiring from playing Dean had hoped to move into management. But things didn't work out and he found it impossible to get work.

Without the day to day routine that football had provided for so many years he quickly spiralled into a self-destructive lifestyle, filling most of his days with trips to the pub.

And with his reputation as a local hero, fellow drinkers were only too eager to keep buying him pints.
Windass said the suicide of Wales manager Gary Speed in November last year had a huge impact on himWindass, who at 42 is the same age as Gary Speed, told The People newspaper of his troubles which include the breakup of his 18-year marriage, drinking and financial worries.

He said: 'People outside football think we have it all. But I was in a hole that I honestly didn't know how to get out of.

'Just over a week ago I hit rock bottom and decided to end it all.

'I first took an overdose and when that didn't work tried to hang myself. I felt so alone and believed I had nothing to live for.

'I need to sort myself out which is why I'm speaking out now. unsecured loans It's part of me getting better - part of the healing process.

'I knew I'd been a fool but I couldn't shake off the depression at feeling what a failure I'd become.'

Windass said he could not cope after finishing his career and began drinking, often consuming 15 pints of lager and lime.

He said his marriage broke up and with little income, estranged from his family and grieving for his father John who had recently died, he decided to kill himself.

Luckily a former girlfriend turned up and saved him.

He said the following day, he tried again to take his own life. He was only stopped when a friend came round.

He added: 'We're not the brightest but you play football all your life. bad credit loans There are hundreds of footballers in the same boat (after retirement). There is nothing to get up for in the morning.'

Henry goals

London. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger described Thierry Henry’s winning goal in his emotional comeback match against Leeds United as “like a dream.” The 34-year-old former France international needed just over 10 minutes to score the bad credit loans only goal of the game at the Emirates Stadium on Monday in the FA Cup third round tie.

Henry came off the bench in the 68th minute and disposed of the Championship side with a high-quality finish having taken a pass from Alex Song on the left of the penalty area.

It was his first game in an Arsenal unsecured loans shirt since 2007 when he left for Barcelona, returning to the Gunners last week in an eight-week loan arrangement with the New York Red Bulls.

Wenger was aware that such a story was of the fairytale variety, with the club only just having unveiled a statue of the Frenchman outside the stadium to mark a record tally of goals that has now gone up to 227.

“He was already a legend here and he has added just a bit more to the whole story,” purred Wenger.

“It was a little bit like a dream because it was the sort of story you would tell to young kids that you want to know about football.

“Unfortunately it’s not often like that in our game - but sometimes it happens.”

Wenger admitted that Henry had taken a gamble on returning to the club, simply because of his previous exploits.

Yet Wenger had always had faith that the comeback had been the right decision for both parties.

“You could see straight away when he came on that he was a presence on the pitch and if we could find him he could be dangerous,” he said.

“In training I could see that he was sharp. I would not have put him on the pitch if he was not ready, that would have been unfair.”

Now Wenger is hoping Henry can have an equally beneficial effect on Arsenal’s Premier League and Champions League schedules until he returns to the States.

“He is a special player and what is a good thing for the young players is that he has done it all yet still prepares 100percent, is focused and is motivated,” said Wenger.

“He has an immense desire to do well.

“He was under some pressure. He is a proud guy and doesn’t want to disappoint people. He knows he will be compared to what he has done before but that’s what champions are about - they always want to be seen as people who do well.

“It’s a kind of combat.”

Wenger had allowed top scorer Robin van Persie to miss the match and must now ponder how to get the best out of Henry and the Netherlands international, starting with Sunday’s trip to Wales for the Premier League clash with Swansea.

“I haven’t decided yet. Robin will be back against Swansea but whether Thierry will start or not I don’t know.

“They can play together, of course. They did play together before.”

Leeds defended stoutly and attacked whenever they could but manager Simon Grayson knew that Henry’s arrival had been likely to tip the balance in Arsenal’s favour.

“We defended well as a team, the desire and attitude was fantastic and we came very close to getting a result,” he said.

“But it was probably written in the stars that what happened would happen and that’s the class of Thierry Henry.”

Arsenal, who will be without defender Francis Coquelin for a number of weeks because of a hamstring injury sustained in the first half, will now play Aston Villa at home in the fourth round later in the month.

The home side started the match brightly, controlling possession against their Championship opponents, with Russian international Andrei Arshavin squandering a couple of presentable early chances on.
Former Sevilla man Sebastien Squillaci bad credit loans came close to breaking the deadlock in the 14th minute.
Mikel Arteta played in a wicked set piece which the French defender met with his head, but failed to test Andy Lonergan in the Leeds goal.
Leeds finally posed a threat midway through the first half after Arsenal failed to clear a free-kick.
Finland international Mika Vayrynen picked up the loose ball before driving to the byline.
His attempted cross deflected nicely into the path of Becchio who could only smash his close-range effort over the bar.
Wenger’s defensive injury problems took another turn for the worse after Coquelin picked up an apparent hamstring injury and was subsequently replaced by debutant Nico Yennaris.

With less than 25 minutes remaining, Henry made his much-anticipated comeback as Wenger decided to add the Frenchman and Theo Walcott into the mix as he strived for the win, with the former Barcelona forward’s arrival sparking the previously reserved home supporters into frenzy.
The deadlock was finally broken 13 minutes from time with Henry getting on the end of an Alex Song pass, before bending a trademark finish past the hapless Lonergan.
Leeds almost managed to strike back instantly through a Ross McCormack header which the previously untested Wojciech Szczesny did well to hold.
The visitors continued to push for a goal and Szczesny was again called into action by a stinging effort by former Chelsea man Mikael Forssell, but the visitors could not find a way through.
